You've got a home with the Dems
We are a group of Democrats from Portage County, OH. We want to reignite the party to fight for the rights of the people of Portage County. We want to keep our elected officials responsible, and fighting for all of their constituents. It can be difficult to speak to our representation in the House or Senate. So, we organize and make our voices heard. We are not directly affiliated with the Democratic Party.

Talking with the Average Voter: Building communities
On August, 3rd at 2 pm, we will welcome PJ Errera to teach effective conversations methods with community members. Learn to be more effective by de-escalating partisan conversations and building positive community relationships.

About our Speaker
PJ Errera is a lifelong member of the community, a proud graduate of Kent City Schools and Kent State University, and currently works in the IT industry. With a strong background in communication and advocacy, PJ has held leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels, championing rural policy initiatives in education, infrastructure, and healthcare. For the past two years, PJ has served as Chair of the Rural Caucus of the Young Democrats of America, leading national efforts to strengthen Democratic outreach in rural communities — many of which have gone without meaningful outreach for decades. His activism has focused on addressing the real needs of rural families, including expanding broadband access, protecting healthcare, and improving essential infrastructure.PJ has also served as Chair, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary on various boards, bringing a record of results-driven leadership and a passion for public service. He is running for the Kent City Schools Board of Education to ensure students, teachers, and families receive equitable support and opportunities in a safe, thriving educational environment.PJ is committed to transparency, advocating for strong public schools, and preserving academic excellence. Above all, they believe that effective communication between the district and the community is key — and will work tirelessly, especially at the state level, to be a strong, accessible voice for the district and its future.

On June 23rd, Kyle Herman provided our June community conversation:
Ranked Choice Voting and How it Benefits Voters1. With Ranked Choice Voting, you can choose one candidate or rank the candidates in the order you prefer them.
2. If no candidate wins a majority and your favorite is in last place, your vote automatically counts for your second choice, and so forth.
3. It's just like a runoff, but instead of having to return to the polls, your vote transfers instantly since you already ranked your preferences.
4. This simple change will ensure that the winner has support from a majority of voters while leveling the field so that a greater diversity of parties and candidates can compete.
5. Ranked Choice Voting will put voters first and restore faith that their votes matter at this critical time by providing the freedom to vote for your true favorite without helping the candidate you like least.
6. Election integrity is stronger when more voters have confidence their votes will count.
On June 1, Dr. Mark Vopat came to Ravenna and presented on the SB1 for referendum petitions to get the voters' say on who we want teaching Higher Education. Do we want politicians to dictate what can or should be taught, or experts?
